Seriously I think if someone has done more for charities (I'm talking time not money) than Bono then they have a say. If not they should keep their winey, hypocritical cake holes shut!

If you don't have to work for a living 5 days a week and spent hours communting on crowded pubic transport have somebody to wash your clothes clean your house wipe your arse and deal with the boring day to day stuff you have more time to spend doing charitable stuff.

it's always good to have time to do these things, which also happens to get you free publicity.

I find their music generally dull since 1984 but am aware that he raises the profile of a lot of world issues, so he can't be all bad, no matter how much the last album sucks.

While he's a smug looking arse with a very opinonated approach to life I don't think you can accuse him of never giving any money to charity.
But I could be wrong, I'm not his accountant so couldn't be certain.

in terms of his income its like me giving 50p a month....

he "endorses" charity so he gives some time. No actual money out of his own pocket.

If MrHorrible's figures are correct and U2 made $255m last year - or in 2005 ;D ...
Split that 4 ways (each band member) = $63m
Divide by 12 (months in the year) = $5.3m
Divide by 20 (working days a month - he takes a few days off a month) = $265,625
Divide by 7 (hours of work a day - he doesn't work through lunch) = $37,946 per hour
So every hour he's standing at the front of a charity function he's giving them $37,946
And how much have you given this year?
:D (don;t bother arguing I'm joking with these numbers obviously)

So he's not buying off his conscience by giving large sums of money. Good.

Plus, as mentioned, he gets the significant publicity benefits from doing it.

"U2 have taken the top spot in Billboard magazine's inaugural Money Makers chart in the US with income of $255,022,633.35.
Billboard reports that the chart compiles album and digital sales with box office receipts during 2005."
Charity donation figures to follow.
