# Coz his dad did more for charity obviously!
EDIT: That fucking Bono! Never did anything for charity!

# i nearly
took that the wrong way. :)

# that's what SHE said.

# This is not Futurama!
Seriously I think if someone has done more for charities (I'm talking time not money) than Bono then they have a say. If not they should keep their winey, hypocritical cake holes shut!
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:11, archived)
# why are you telling me?
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:13, archived)
# It was a generalised comment in the relivant thread
Plus I know you stole his shoes!

# Bono's great
It's the Edge - he's a twat!

:)

# Aaaaw
Edge is a sweetie!

with the disabled, elderly and other stuff dosen't count.

then yes.

# you really like Bono don't you
you're acting like i insulted your mum.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:30, archived)
# I am not taking sides here but regarding your argument;
If you don't have to work for a living 5 days a week and spent hours communting on crowded pubic transport have somebody to wash your clothes clean your house wipe your arse and deal with the boring day to day stuff you have more time to spend doing charitable stuff.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:16, archived)
# yeah,
it's always good to have time to do these things, which also happens to get you free publicity.

call me a cynic if you like....
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:18, archived)
# I can't comment on Bono because I am biased
but it seems to me you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:19, archived)
# i hate the twat.
but everyones entitled to their opinion. Fan or hater.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:23, archived)
# That's why I cannot comment
because I detest the arrogant twat.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:25, archived)
# I'm not a fan or a hater
I find their music generally dull since 1984 but am aware that he raises the profile of a lot of world issues, so he can't be all bad, no matter how much the last album sucks.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:31, archived)
# I downloaded the deluxe edition of The Joshua Tree the other day.
It is still a wonder to behold. But since then they have been rather dire.

# Blimey.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:09, archived)
# that is THE TRUTH
Also he couldn't see the pope with out his lucky hat, which was back in PoTaTo land, so he flew it out in an empty plane for £5k

(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:05, archived)
# ..yeah...hey Bono... about your guest on the 10th floor.........
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:06, archived)
# Bono has never given any money to charity?
While he's a smug looking arse with a very opinonated approach to life I don't think you can accuse him of never giving any money to charity.

But I could be wrong, I'm not his accountant so couldn't be certain.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:07, archived)
# yeah,
in terms of his income its like me giving 50p a month....
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:08, archived)
# really? what are the figures?
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:09, archived)
# as far as i am aware
he "endorses" charity so he gives some time. No actual money out of his own pocket.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:12, archived)
# not true AT ALL
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:15, archived)
# Isn't time money?
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:16, archived)
# To generalize....
If MrHorrible's figures are correct and U2 made $255m last year - or in 2005 ;D ...

Split that 4 ways (each band member) = $63m
Divide by 12 (months in the year) = $5.3m
Divide by 20 (working days a month - he takes a few days off a month) = $265,625
Divide by 7 (hours of work a day - he doesn't work through lunch) = $37,946 per hour

So every hour he's standing at the front of a charity function he's giving them $37,946
And how much have you given this year?

:D (don;t bother arguing I'm joking with these numbers obviously)
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:27, archived)
# I'd say that is quite impressive

also: last year wasn't 2005
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:31, archived)
# I wouldn't argue with that much to spend on sweets
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:32, archived)
# I think time is of much more value to him than money anyway

So he's not buying off his conscience by giving large sums of money. Good.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:45, archived)
# lols
thats more than i make in a year in 2 hours.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:32, archived)
# generous ain't he
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:36, archived)
# He loses nothing by doing it, I'm guessing most of the money is royalties which roll in anyway.
Plus, as mentioned, he gets the significant publicity benefits from doing it.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:38, archived)
# Well more than that obviously
I'm not tight you know!
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:53, archived)
# in 2005:
"U2 have taken the top spot in Billboard magazine's inaugural Money Makers chart in the US with income of $255,022,633.35.

Billboard reports that the chart compiles album and digital sales with box office receipts during 2005."

Charity donation figures to follow.
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:15, archived)
# cor, that's a lot of money
have you got other peoples? I assume the Rolling Stones are quite close behind
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:21, archived)
# who's Kenny Chesney?!
I assume Country singer, I'd never heard of the bloke before. Crikey that's a lucrative market.
And looks like the Green Day marketing department have done a great job of selling the no sell out range at Claire's Accessories :D
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:35, archived)
# make sure
you include the tax benefits they get from it..
(, Sun 27 Jul 2008, 21:21, archived)
# the tax is one area that they are sods for sure, same as the Rolling Stones
but the list of cocks who make their money in one place then fuck off elsewhere to save on Taxes is as long as your arm.

But they do have to be neighbours with cnuts like Phil Collins and Lewis Hamilton, so its not all good :D
