# was it not an oppresive regime? a place where women were beheaded as a spectator sport?
i think someone needed to act

# like saudi arabia?
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:09, archived)
# no
not at all

# I'm very confused with who the bad guys are
I'd better read the daily mail

the voice of britain!

# ok
let me explain

the bad guys are the ones who are not like us

we of course are right

see - its quite simple

# that's the way, or you could visit afganistan now and see some of the benifits the war has created for the people there
but i doubt you will bother doing that
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:16, archived)
# I don't think I'd be too keen
to visit a country where people blow themselves up on a regular basis.

# I'd suggest that you go too then.
Because it's not like that at all.

# And what parts of Helmand did you
see that were welcoming the fact that they still have worse reliability in the utilities they had pre-war and welcoming of the troops that are clearing IED's from their patrol routes daily?

Just because the Yanks have awarded contracts to their ailing construction industry in order to make the capital look good for journalists does not mean the country is benefiting. Why have they not rebuilt Kajak as promised? That would do the single best thing for the countries infrastructure than making hotels and electricity in the capital.

# the mobile telephone network is much better these days, coverage is increasing daily
fibre optic broadband will also be supplied soon

# But it's not benefiting the nation
not at all. I don't want to argue with you Mongy, I've said before and I'm happy to say it again, I like you but I feel that people need to be careful with their opinions about these things especially when they are based more upon what propaganda they can read rather than the true state of affairs. Afghanistan was a lost cause 6 years ago and has not progressed on a national level since.
I see it from a soldier's view and it's really, really upsetting. People laugh and joke ( and are often quite insulting ) about me and how angry I get. Seriously, is it any wonder I and thousands of others are fucked up because of this? And we are the lucky ones.
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:49, archived)
# was that meant to be a joke?
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:50, archived)
# no, why do you have a problem with your current service provider?

Let's invade Zimababwe, Saudia Arabia, Democratic Republic of Congo etc etc

^this, I love the way students talk and shout loudly about life as if they know all about it when they are still at fucking school

# I love the way older people presume they have a grasp of reality because they are old.
Whereas in reality they just spout a different flavour of bollocks.
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:33, archived)
# why are you bringing age into this?
are you saying that older people can't enjoy further education? you sicken me, you huguenot

# Emm, perhaps because in general the older people in our population have had more experience of living life
I will grant you though that some don't seem to heed any of this

# They have an experience of living life.
Doesn't mean to say their experience is a good one, doesn't mean to say they are not selfish or racist. It does not mean anything.
If anything I'd say I've seen more people who count getting older and having family as justification to fuck over any other race, minority or class to keep their own unit in well heeled shoes.
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:48, archived)
# Not really, nobody needed to act at all.
As its nobody's fucking business how a sovereign state does it's business. Taliban made themselves a target by allying themselves to Al Quaeda and given that the Yanks can't operate without retribution ( regardless of who actually takes the ass-whooping, as long as there is an ass-whooping ) then this whole sorry business started.

I'm sure that your intentions about women and oppression are all good and to be commended but you have to be clear that was never, ever the reason for the troops going in. The only reason it started is because Osama holed up there.

# did you mean Israel?
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 21:40, archived)
# Just remember you are talking to someone that had to fight
this crap for NATO and the Yanks for 10 years.

And yes, you might as well scrap Nato because it is a useless entity. nato acts where America wants it to. As mentioned above there are much worse regimes in operation today that violate human rights, ignore NATO sanctions and nothing is don. Isreal have been ignoring a multitude of NATO sanctions since the 50's and nothing is ever done yet they have a vile human rights record and are still an occupying nation..

So yes, let people do what they want unless you are prepared to police the world and not just the bits that will improve your economy back home.
