# Well, since it's so darn quiet, here's one of my drawings...

Click for bigger (164KB)
I started drawing on sandpaper about 6 or 7 years ago, in an effort to get better textural effects with feathers and fur. This Yellow Naped Amazon parrot was one of my first experiments.

If you're into drawing with pastels or coloured pencils, I implore you to get a hold of some nice fine sandpaper (400 grit or finer - 600 grit is best for me) and get drawing. It's sumptuous!

EDIT: It wouldn't accept the 1600 x 1200 image (over 500K), so this will have to do... I actually don't think the quality is worth a CFB, but see what you think.

# what a nicely drawn parrot.

# "Pretty Polly"
a CFB (say1600*1200 ) is usually appreciated for wallpapers for good images like this

# Thanks for the hummus!
Not sure how to edit the pic though with a CFB once it's already been posted...
I posted a small sized file on the host to keep the size down, and after I read your kind post, when I hit EDIT, I wasn't sure how to delete the current image and replace with a thumbnail with the 'CFB'...

# upload the big file and then just cut link bit
ie the www.b3tahosting.com/bigparrotpicture.jpg

that's a horseroll btw.

# Wow, thanks!
I feel all warm and fuzzy, now!
Enjoy!

(I may post more at slow times on the board, stay tuned)

# just upload a bigger one
and stick a link in your original thread, use that little edit tab under your image, it's the easiest way to do it.

pic is superb btw, but don't you get through pastels a lot quicker using this technique, and the dust!!!
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:34, archived)
# Yes, you do tend to use a little more pastel
But because most of my work is A4 sized, it's not a huge hardship. I apply the fixative pretty frequently to prevent smudging, but dust does tend to build up if you don't vacuum it up every now and then.

Unfortunately, blowing the pics up to be huge doesn't necessarily look as good, as the whole texture thing tends to get a bit lost in the up-scale.

# hehe.
shame about the bigger one losing definition, but it still looks good, you have a promising career drawing on pavements outside a tube station ahead of you:)
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:51, archived)
# Ha ha!
Yeah, probably as far as my artistic career will go! Meh, it's all enjoyment anyway.

# Ace!

# (Blushes, smiles shyly) Thank you, Sir...
And if it makes you feel any better, I've lost over 40% of my hearing as well (result of crap genetics, not from partying next to the Marshall amps at a respectable rock concert) and I have booked TWO ear trumpets... see below

Disclaimer: not my image, just love it for it's accuracy in this situation.

# Nicely done
Also, not deserving of its own thread...

# Retro
I still have my motel bit somewhere. I think.
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:23, archived)
# nice one,
is the motel still being added to?
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:39, archived)
# You didn't put the sandpaper in your scanner did you!!!
Nice pic
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:23, archived)
# No, just took a photo
But as you can see, the texture makes for a not-quite-clear photograph.

I could probably tidy it up a bit in PS but that would be cheating ;)

# cool idea
(, Sun 7 Dec 2008, 11:25, archived)
# Thanks!
It mostly stemmed from being flat broke and not being able to afford proper toothed pastel paper... sometimes being a tightarse works out OK.

# envelopes are the best drawing paper
people keep sending you them all the time
