# ATI = AMD
Sort of, and AMD may already have binned ATI.
For some reason ATI only hires idiots. NV on
the other hand is filled with idiots from top down.

# I KNOW
but i'm talking graphics cards. AMD is doing pretty bad at processors at the moment, but AMD/ATi is doing fine with graphics cards

# ATI hardware(not oem) post Rage has been good, yes.
Drivers, however, have not been good since before that time (2000ish?).

# thanks
nvidia it is then....

www.ebuyer.com/product/150605/show_product_specifications?spectype=extended
looks interesting...anyone understand any of it?

and yes, about forty quid is the extent of my post-christmas budget

# Well, what are you using it for?
If it's for (new) video games, then it's not a good card to buy. But everything else should be fine.

# mostly not games
the games i do play aren't graphics-heavy.
CAD, video editing, and being able to play HD stuff through my pc because it's cheaper than a HD-DVD player...my new hardware is up to it, but it came with a hole where the graphics card should be...
(, Sat 27 Dec 2008, 2:55, archived)
# yeah, should be fine then
really there's no way to know exactly how your card is going to work out in your computer, but getting a balance of people's opinions is a good way to go about it i guess.

# buggrit
that PNY card needs a 350w psu...

i only have 275w lump

fucking stupid dell shit, why stick a dual-core chip in a box with not enough power?
(, Sat 27 Dec 2008, 3:03, archived)
# haha
because you bought a dell, that's why :(

# For some reason I have been mentally associating Nvidia more with OpenGL and ATI more with DirectX
but I can no longer remember why and am probably just wrong.
(, Sat 27 Dec 2008, 3:10, archived)
# both are supported
like tits in a tech bra
(, Sat 27 Dec 2008, 3:12, archived)
# Well yes, but I think maybe NVidia were earlier supporters of OGL.
Or that might just have been my imagination. But it made me like them more, anyway.
