# He should keep it.
It was their feck up. Of course he took it. If they don't pay it - what next? It's a dangerous precedent to set - I don't want to be on the end of "Oh - we've decided we're paying you too much, A Vagabond, so now ashley YOU owe US money at the end of each month."

# This muchly
It's a legally binding contract which he can sue for if it's taken from him.

It sucks but there you go
(, Fri 27 Feb 2009, 11:47, archived)
# but that's the point
his pension isn't legally binding, RBS were allowed to pay him this much but didn't have to.

The ministers involved with managing the bank didn't realise that his pension wasn't contractual until the media pointed it out to them, stupidly enough

Besides, even if it was, take it off the fucker and see if he has the front to sue. I doubt it.

# It is the government's concern
because they own 50% of RBS ot whatever it is. But really, the point is that Goodwin should say, "I really shouldn't have sanctioned buying ABN Amro, it was a stupid mistake and I don't deserve this pension".
(, Fri 27 Feb 2009, 11:56, archived)
# He should pay back his pension...
...when Mr. G. Brown repays the rent he got from sub-letting his office to the Labour party. Something which was very naughty (i.e. verging on illegal) to do. But, of course, G. Brown is keeping the cash.

All this noise is just MPs trying to look good in the press. The do not care one shit about you, this country or the economy. SO long as they get THEIR fat pay check, THEIR fat pension, THEIR dubious expenses claims and THEIR perks/back-handers for being a director, that's it. The rest is just "Fuck you".

MPs are, to a person, absolutely without honour.

Bunch of cunts.

# At the end of the day
He's a banker, not a civil servant.

This all happened long before the government invested in HBOS, so really it's none of their concern.
(, Fri 27 Feb 2009, 11:44, archived)
# but
there wouldn't be a company to pay him this pension if RBS had gone under, surely?
(, Fri 27 Feb 2009, 11:51, archived)
# I think that's irrelevant
Are the government going to stop ALL the pensions that HBOS is paying out?

I do think the guy's a wanker, but he's a banker.
I can't beleiev people are surprised that he doesn't want to give it back.

Haven't they seen Deal or No Deal, FFS?!

# wrong bank
and the goverernment hasn't threatened to take his pension away but have merely said the man's got a cheek to take it and may be he should think about not drawing it all.
(, Fri 27 Feb 2009, 11:59, archived)
# He can keep the cash
but he has to climb up a slippery pole grabbing the bank notes as he goes. Oh, and there's hungry attack dogs at the bottom of the pole.
