# Haha, but this whole police being too brutal gets right on my tits
if idiots didn't try to burn down banks it probably wouldn't have happened, and its more just people wanting their 15mins of fame being the person that got hit by riot police
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 13:42, archived)
# Technically the police are the servants of the idiots and therefore shouldn't be hitting them
although, yes, it's difficult to object strongly to this.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 13:50, archived)
# but you've got to give them a little bit of leeway in regards to hitting people
people seem to think that it's only right to hit someone who poses a physical threat...and that seems very narrow minded in the midst of a riot
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 13:57, archived)
# "midst of a riot"?
Have you seen the videos?

No one (well, very few) people would have minded them hitting someone in the "midst of a riot", but they seem to think it is OK to hit people who are peacefully protesting, something we are allowed to do in a free country.

Until the police are officially given the title of the govenments anti-protest force, they should just protect people and property from damage, not hit people for shouting.

# Vids I've seen they are chanting directly at police
Doesn't matter what they are chanting, it's aggressive so someone got a smack. Big deal.

(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 14:35, archived)
# exactly!
you act like a twat, you get a smack...think about it, if you're out there to be peaceful, then why come face to face with the police in the first place? why not hang around with the other people peacfully protesting away from the police? I mean...if you're aim is to protest and nothing more then why should it matter where you protest? as long as people acknowledge the protest then it's done it's job.

I think it's pretty clear that people not only expected this reaction to the police...they down right provoked it but rather than just weed out the bad apples from the police...a lot of people want to incite mass hatred and like it or not, mass hatred is always immoral and irrational!

# If the idiots wernt there, and didnt want to piss off london for a day or two
then the riot police wouldnt have had to be there. And yeah, the guy just walking alone getting knocked over, not good, but the stupid woman who got slapped, then still refused to move back then got hit, she should have listened
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 13:59, archived)
# it's all a matter of degrees
Being pushed back after refusing to move, in my opinion, fine, she was asking for it.

Being hit in the face, and then having a trunchon used on her legs (for complaining about being hit in the face) is just bully boy tactics.

They need to weed out the bad apples before all the police get a bad name.
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 14:34, archived)
# So you'd rather these idiots rioting and trashing peoples businesses and stuff?
We need fear, otherwise people would take advantage and trash shit all the time
(, Sun 19 Apr 2009, 14:41, archived)
# Arguably better than fear
though far from ideal.

# see
the police are supposed to protect the public
and they didn't do that with Ian Tomlinson, who wasn't doing anything

but the girl who's complained to the IPCC about police pushing her admitted that she'd pushed some policeman, that's a bit rich really

# If this happened in france/germany/america/russia
no-one would give a shit, they'd take their beating and get on with it. Man up, if you're gonna go protest be prepared for the concequences

# Actually I suspect if this happened in france, germany or russia the crowd would take their beatings and then start fighting the police.
Then the police would have to get the water cannon out and spray them all down.
