Haha, the vodka should've taken care of that fear though
I eat the worms (usually, they're presented separately). I believe it's more a thing for the tourists now. The worms were originally put in the bottles to verify there was enough alcohol in there to preserve the worm.

It wasn't fear of contamination...
...it was fear of having a scorpion in my mouth, even a dead one.
Although I did feel very annoyed with myself afterwards :/
