# 152k file size.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:21, archived)
# I tad on the large size
but hardly worth the effort of flaming the noob Mr Riverghost cheer up ;)
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:23, archived)
# I wasn't
Since when was asking a new person to read the faq flaming?
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:24, archived)
# Since everybody became board nazis shouting
READ FAQ you fucking MONGY NOOB and stuff on that ilk. ;)

Theseday saying Read FAQ is a akin to calling someone a CUNT or maybe that's just the way the board is now. It might have been a more polite to have said "You're image exceeds the 100k criteria please read our wonderful FAQ" :D

and cheer the fuck up!

# the faq includes the secret codes stuff
that auto writes "Hello new person. Please read our FAQ. Cheers."

It's the suggested response from on high, I assume considered a balanced level of fluffy and stern
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:31, archived)
# This is true
but we must not let the new people see our Secret Uplaod Codez ;)
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:33, archived)
# You have all teh codez
???
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:44, archived)
# I really hate that.
Even politely suggesting that someone. new or old ( it's more the 6 year olds these days ) might want to consider a link to optimisation or a refresher of the FAQ brings out some waster who will scream profanity at you for trying to be helpful. You just can't win.

( not aimed at you, fair Maiden ;))

Hello new person. Please read our FAQ. Cheers.

# I find that highly offensive. :O
If I flame someone I can sit back afterwards happy of a job well done.
Nobody leave the riverghost flame experience feeling half stupid. I take pride in my flaming I do!

# Sorry to have underestimated your power of the flame
*bows in humility*

# pah. You shitty amateurs
and your ideas of flaming. Carry on kids. I might come out of retirement and give you all a lesson one day ;)

# paa!
You needed a profession before you can retire!
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:40, archived)
# Flame off
I didn't think I was being flamed - it was quite polite really.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:28, archived)
# Yer dad smells of kiddy wee
is that better? I know it's not considered the full b3ta experience if you're not flamed by riverghost.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:29, archived)
# Oh, you've met him then
Thanks.

# Well that makes a pleasant change.
You're usually bringing them off.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:43, archived)
# Cheers
I have now made it a bit smaller.
152Kb seems pretty small already if you ask me. What's the best way to make it smaller without losing too much quality?
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:27, archived)
# Our greatest ever optimisation nazi was Lemony
he did a tutorial

www.lemony.co.uk/optimisation.htm

"Optimise it Hard" as Lemony used to say
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:31, archived)
# draw with a smaller pen
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:32, archived)
# There's plenty of tutorials
nought but a google away.

Having said that, unless you image is a certified "arts" rather than a joke, you can usually optimise to buggery and still get a positive reaction.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:33, archived)
# I wouldn't worry about quality, this is B3ta not the Tate
Either compress it (80% jpeg is usually fine) or if you can't bear any artifacts just post it as a thumbnail with a link to a big one.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:33, archived)
# That's why
you will get asked to read the FAQ as it explains file-size limits. 150k might be small, but on aboard full of ever changing pictures it soon adds up to megabytes of bandwidth every F5 and unfortunately some b3tans still live in lands of despots and bandwidth caps.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:39, archived)
# and tea.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:42, archived)
# I wouldn't say that every F5 refresh added bandwidth
because as soon as the image is loaded it's cached on your browser but if people alter their threads or there's a lot of new images appearring then yes bandwidth can be crippled somewhat - however, that has never stopped anybody coming to b3ta on a regular basis. I think my bandwidth is capped by and fair useage policy which might explain why I get terrible lag at times but I still come here as often as I can.
(, Thu 30 Apr 2009, 9:45, archived)
# Yeah I understand cacheing
and that's why I added the 'changing images' statement. No point going in to massive detail. Every new member should have read and understood the FAQ before their first post. It says so when you sign up. Perhaps people think it's like terms and conditions and ignore it.

I too have bandwidth caps. It's just gone up to 4TB a month, which is nice, because I'm going to go over my previous 2TB limit about 4 days before it resets this month.
