TJ: Which image types support transparency? As a .jpeg, my transparent background becomes white on a website. As a .png, the background is transparent but the file size is huge!

depending on the number of colours required you could probably get away with a nice gif palette.

.gif
.png has the drawback of not being properly displayed in some IE browsers. You're probably better sticking with .gif right now if you're using transparency.

Note on using/posting gifs on here.
Background (matte setting) should be 20% gray for best results.
If it is default white you will sometimes get odd colour shifts.
