Or looking at things in my bedroom, like a lightswitch. Then my view would zoom in incredibly fast, and I'd be looking at it from about half an inch away. I couldn't back up from it. Everything would become grainy and more or less black&white and the things started making a crackling, buzzing noise (seen Eraserhead? I hadn't then, but it was very much like it). Sometimes I'd even zoom in so far I'd see the molecules moving and making noise.
Then, my vision would zoom out in a microsecond and I'd view everything as if they were miles away. Light was very low by then and there were no colours anymore.
This happened a lot of times, for quite some years. And always while I was still awake and my eyes were open, I think.
