It looks like a 'we are the real monsters' type film.
Apparently in "I Am Legend" in the original ending, the vampires are revealed to be thinking, benevolent creatures who were merely attempting to rescue a vampire that Neville had captured earlier - yet another test audience ruins what could have been a good film.
