out of music that is not instantly objectionable.
About half of the first album is what she did before (which isn't really displaying much indie cred, I happened to be at uni at the time she was still occasionally playing St Andrews with, err, damn, I've forgotten her band's name, Red Light Stylus, I think they were), kind of ballsy half-bluesy pop that shows off her voice well. The other half is a bit anodyne. But for the half that shows off her voice, I'd actually recommend it.
Plus her dad used to lecture me and he's a top bloke.

he was a physics lecturer. Oddly enough, not even mentioned on their website anymore, unlike most other retired lecturers. I suspect they're all jealous of him for his daughter.

which I think is called Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree, or something like that. I really like that song, but her other stuff is distinctly Meh.
When were you at St Andrews?

"Other Side of the World" I quite like as well, and "Suddenly I See". They're probably the most lively and the most like she was before, though she always did a lot of gentle pop stuff too.
I was there 98-02.

I have a long-standing love affair with Liz Phair (well her music anyway) for similar reasons
and I hate her drummer. Because she married him.

Also says she's a quarter Chinese. Which explains why when I was looking for source pics, my immediate thought was 'She looks a bit Asian...' haha :]

wiki also comments that the fife scene was "limited", which makes me laugh because it was almost comatose.

And oddly, for a uni lecturer, remembers things you said about what you planned to do when he tutored you in first year three years later when you'd long forgotten them yourself. Which is pretty impressive when you think about it. I can't even remember the names of students I taught three years ago, which makes it particularly embarrassing when you meet them in the street.
