Well anyone looking to adopt this early already has the PC
And I'd suggest that you won't get much change from £1k for the PC. The PS4 one cannot be up to scratch though, the hardware it's running from is frankly rubbish - That console has the same processing power as a two year old PC. The nice thing about the Rift over everything bar the HTC is that the lag and sickness effects are gone.

And there's the main problem
The price of entry is way too high. Samsung had an interesting idea with the Gear, but the Galaxy S phones don't have the traction needed in the market. If Apple were to do something like it with the iPhone then that would kick the market up the arse and they'd clean up the low to mid range. While claiming it was high end. And that they'd invented it.

Apple did patent an idea of using an iphone in a headset
But who wants a phone stuck on their head? The battery isn't going to last long pushing out that kind of stuff.
Edit: Also looks like you'd need 2 iPhones to get 3D anyway lol!

So Apple patented the Samsung Gear
I'm not surprised. Thing is the Gear works very well for playing 360 videos and won't take any more battery than just watching YouTube on it.
As for gaming? I guess if you're sitting down wearing it then it wouldn't be too much effort to have a charger cable running. You'd have that with any of the other systems anyway.

That cardboard model is clearly supperior to the Apple version.
By not having to drill through the cranium between the "external Naris" and the "Inferior Nasak Choncha".
That or they hired the worst illustrator on earth.

Good points about the ps4
but I'm not convinced it's not up to it until I see it running, I don't think Sony would release Morpheus if it was totally shitballs.

^ this
Unlike when they released their "me too" kinect, they've got the time available to get it right this time.

The "me too"?
Not the "move" then? That was actually quite fun, especially Tiger Woods golf. Although you didn't get to fuck any hookers in it.

There will be extra hardware
so it's PS4 + box + headgear. No indication of what the extra box does yet but it's quite likely taking some of the processing burden.

link?
Edit: Been reading about, I think it performs reprojection, that bumps the fps up to 120, it works by averaging 2 frames and creating a new one in the middle. But yeah you're right, that seems to be because the PS4 can't push 120fps at 1080p natively, it can just manage 60fps.
