In fairness, that was a tough crowd
I, too, have tried the whole flash mob thing in a library. It did not go down well.

I'll just lob this in before I go to bed
politics is not the straight jacket it perhaps once was in the eighties. Me clinging on to the Guardian or the Independent seems completely irrelevant in regard to what they actually report these days, other freebies like the Telegraph or Daily mail report on with much more reliability. And plus there's the Independent's new determination to be the new Rob's foray into Daily Mirror fuckwardness with it's spastic section, and the Guardian's unassailble levels of bullshit and cringe worthy middle class crap. Anyway we read what we read

I'm currently finding some of it a mildly amusing counter balance to the
hard left reactionary shite I see on Facebook every day, considered acceptable in broadly liberal social circles.
Plus some of it is actually relevant. Part of the problem with that black power bollocks is that no one seems to be pulling them up for behaving like shouty retarded spastics, in universities, or elsewhere

Why not just mute them?
Sharing and clicking offence-seeking stuff on either side only encourages more of it.

It's tricky
Some of the culprits are people I genuinely quite like, so I don't want to mute them off my radar, despite the endless, completely mindless Cameron is a cunt, the NHS is dying, etc

Muting just removes them from your timeline
,you can still chat or go directly to their page.
You can also block from a source if they are posting thing from a specific site that annoys you. You'll still get the rest of their stuff.
By clicking anything you are telling Facebook's algorythm "I am interested in this type of thing. More of this please".

Wasn't there a whole thread about ignoring things around here?
Don't tell me that Prufrock has got his knickers in a twist and ignored me in a thread where he said "Ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away". That's hilarious.

Er no
If you go through life just reading media exclusively supporting your own political bias you'll end up with a very narrow minded view of the world, and probably very unaware given how little of the news the Guardian and Independent actually report. Their news desks are tiny, and the other half of the publications are just their opinion

When we were kids
we had no way of making our mark upon the world - unless we were extremely skilled or talented or lucky. Consequently, it wasn't anything we were bothered about.
Now, its seems, everybody wants attention and, even more worryingly, victimhood. I blame the Internets.

I blame the educational establishment.
They teach every kid that they are special, that their opinion is valid, relevant and that they are entitled to be listened to. They are told that their self esteem is everyone's responsibility and that they have the right not to be offended. It's not like I think we should be mean to kids or anything, but telling them to shut the fuck up and not be a cry baby every once in a while really is important.

I think parents are are more responsible than schools.
Also, everyone IS special, their opinion is valid, relevant and they are entitled to be listened to.
As long as they are also taught that the existence of 6 billion other people means they have to play nice and share.

Their opinion is only valid if they can reasonably argue in favour of it rather than just shout "FREE SPEECH!" at people that have a contrary view.

DAILY MAIL ALERT
Its almost like the daily mail are trying to rile people up.
I prefer your cat posts than your political ones... but isn't that just true of everything
EDIT: also aren't you just as guilty contributing to the hyperbole political spectrum... these flashpoints are media bubbles, but the actual political issues that affect us all are going completely under reported...
aren't you just being one of the shouty shouty ones with this sort of thing?

And the Guardian or the Independent don't have their own political agenda to rile people up?
The Independent's 100 section even puts the Daily Mail to shame for it's in your face opinion on everything, and all the while actually managing to come across as far less intelligent if such a thing is possible, leaving you with the impression it's actually written by a fourteen year old.
Or, how dare the Daily Mail report on current events

oh dear, I don't think I ever mentioned the guardian or independent
the fact is I don't read any newspapers really because of the political bias with all of them, but it's the fact that straight away you assumed I was a reader of one of those papers that irks me... as though my criticism of one of the newspapers is somehow placated by the fact that others are bad too... I wasn't aware we where in a race to the bottom...
this is the reason we can't get along, because you're side is against their side, and you have your newspapers and they have theirs... and they are lefties and you are right wingers... and blah blah blah, it's just so played out i'm afraid.
yawn.

But anyway, here's some snowy footage for you, captured in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur region recently: Snow leopards being fluffy

I think the suggestion is
that when someone shouts 'Daily Mail!', and the other side shouts 'Guardian!' it doesn't get us anywhere. It's no different from the left and right sides of the HoC using a previous governments' track record as an excuse for not doing a better job themselves.
