I don't buy that 'not refugees once they've crossed a line in the sand' thing
They're refugees until they've found somewhere that will accept them. And it's ridiculous to think the outer countries of Europe should take absolutely everyone. Especially when the central EU countries have had a part in bombing the fuck out of their country.

Is the correct answer :)
No matter how unpalatable it will be for our political overlords, and for the gung-ho elements of our populations who whooped along to the whole thing, we HAVE to accept some responsibility for the absolutely dire situation in the Middle East.
The entire region has been a strategic playground for global powers for nearly a fucking century. They have played countries, tribes, religions and societies agaianst each other for their own strategic ends. Who'd have thunk that the outcome would be a region-wide bloodbath eh?

That used to be the EU rule but I agree.
However you just cannot tell from a photo if someone is an economic migrant or a refugee.
Until that distinction is made "migrant" should be an acceptable term.
