i’m certainly no fan of shapiro’s
but i actually thought he emerged the lesser of two cunts, considering his inexperience. neil was obviously ill-prepared and leant tiresomely on his pedagogic drawl to give his questions more significance than they deserved. shapiro for his part, with a bit of self-discipline, could have used neil’s own lazy swinging to unbalance him. he lost his temper though, and any advantage he might have taken went with it.

and that’s the issue i have with the media fallout from these erstwhile gladiatorial interviews. just because they’re adversarial, doesn’t make them debates. neil may be a successful media man, but i’m not convinced he’s clever enough to debate. shapiro is clever, but he’s fighting a steep uphill battle outside his alt-right echo chamber, and his nasal timbre and petulant expression don’t help his cause. He is entitled to his shitty opinions however, and it’s unfortunate that neil neither respected that nor asked questions that exposed their fallacy.

Neil simply quoted Shaprio's own words, and he was unable to explain himself or justify what he wrote. Shapiro came across as an intellectual lightweight. He looked like he was expecting to get a softball opportunity to spout some soundbites and simply couldn't cope when someone challenged him. Neil wasn't even pushing him very hard!
