The yanks seen to have an inexplicable adoration for him, It's like he did something funny once but I've never found it and he lives off that reputation but isn't funny any more. Completely don't get him.

Maybe his skill is that he acts like he is funny so convincingly that nobody notice he isn't

This is a normal post he's done a few funny bits its over a long career, but I agree his output is far less than his contemporaries
he often does did old "mother-in-law" material, repackaged relying on his persona and ironic deadpan to carry it off, and lot of his other stuff is mostly about confrontation and cruelty to other people in the business. But I think some people like this persona, and like the put-downs which the yanks have more of a tradition with. I think he's pretty second-rank, but does at least has had his own schtick
