AI agents are just glorified computer programs. Hold the boards of the companies responsible for them accountable and this problem goes away instantly.

“Move fast and break things” is fine when it’s your stuff you’re breaking. The minute you start breaking other people’s things there needs to be accountability.

Where do we stop with this? Is Microsoft responsible if someone uses Excel to make a spreadsheet for keeping track of their drug money? Hold car manufacturers if someone uses a car in a robbery getaway? Hold hammer manufacturers responsible when someone goes on a hammer killing rampage? The hackers used the internet too, hold the entire internet infrastructure responsible as well?
Or, more rationally, just hold the person who commits the crime responsible for their actions no matter who made the tools they used?

If Microsoft are programming Excel to be able to hack, then set up a test where they tell it to go and hack and don't put sufficient controls in place to stop it hacking things it shouldn't, then yes.
Also, what's happened to that data? Has it been ingested and used to train more models? If so that's outright theft.

I asked "Is Microsoft responsible if someone uses Excel to make a spreadsheet for keeping track of their drug money?"
and you also ignored that the internet as a whole is fundamental to hacking, it is designed to allow computers to access other computers. Without it, nobody could remotely hack.
You know very well that it is the criminals who are and should be liable, as shown by your wilfully ignoring the questions that highlight that.

Top misdirection there. Totally don't engage with the very topic you raised yourself.

The AI can. A better analogy might be a dangerous dog not under control. Owners get prosecuted if they bite someone.

You have to be very specific about the commands you give it, how you get it to ignore safety locks, and many other things.
Very similar to turning the safety off on a gun, pointing it and pulling the trigger. But we all agree it is the person who does that who is responsible for whatever happens afterwards.

usually by removing or limiting access where said thing can do great harm

at least while the orange one and his ilk are in power, and possibly not the other side either. it'll probably come from the eu if it does
