This is a link post A computer program less than 4KB in size...
It'll wipe your computer.

/hissy fit from there only being a few geeks around any more.

This is a normal post Run an .exe downloaded straight from a mystery link on b3ta?
No.

This is a normal post Shame you don't have an A/V package to scan it.
Your loss I guess...

Would rgba.org/ as a link make you change your mind?

This is a normal post I'm sure it has no viruses
.. but I could easily write a program that wipes a hard drive and put it on the internet and try to get people to run it, so I'm never convinced that other people haven't done the same.
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 17:36, Reply)
This is a normal post That's a fair point.
All I can say is that it didn't wipe my comp...***NO CARRIER***

This is a normal post Could you unzip it,
and post the results of a virus scan.

Cheers.

This is a normal post My A/V (Avast) flags as clear.
The unzipped exe files in the zip are for different screen resolutions. I'm just keen to allay fears as it's really stupidly good (ok - maybe better for the geeks among us, but hey).

If profiles count for anything (and they probably shouldn't), does spending way too long on here count as reassurance?

This is a normal post avast wouldn't detect a private virus
you need heuristic scanning, and avast is shit for that

This is a normal post I suppose so.
But expect a nasty letter to the Daily Mail if it is shite ;-)

This is a normal post Hehe
I can sense something in my future along the lines of:

"Internet terrorist illegal download paedophile expenses nazi sex download! (cont. page 98)"

edit: *cough* yes, download twice - it's THAT... err... shocking?

This is a normal post I just tried to do it,
and now my computer is spazzing due to low memory. Is this normal?
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 17:45, Reply)
This is a normal post Yes, sadly
It starts off as 4k - but then produces graphics proceduraly in advance of giving you the show. It's common with this type of ultra compressed program: they have to store the info somewhere.
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 17:46, Reply)
This is a normal post I don't open random .exes
but looking at his explanatory txt file, it's worth noticing that although his programme is less than 4k, it does make use of plenty of graphic software that's already on your computer and graphics card.

Not to diminish the achievement, of course, but still. I can make a pretty small Shockwave game, too, if I'm allowed to make use of all the graphics drawing routines in the Shockwave plugin.

This is a normal post This I don't doubt.
Check the site linked to the above - and given that you sound like you develop this stuff too, I think you're exactly who I want to see it.

And damn - my sources are revealed:

This is a normal post trust me, you couldn't diminish the achievement by saying that
as it's irrelevant. Plus shockwave requires Flash on the PC and draws images via vector graphics, which hardly takes up alot of space!

More importantly, it contains a virus, W32/Sality.AO.
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 18:45, Reply)
This is a normal post Wrong on the last sentence.
Perhaps trust your A/V a bit less. Not saying you should trust me any more, though ;)

This is a normal post Here's a link that may (or may not) help:

Edit: And my personal favourite, the 256b Demoplex - pouet.net/prod.php?which=26655

This is a normal post Aye :)
Even found a youtube version now:

Sad that everything on /links defaults to youtube in the end...

capped.tv is good for demoscene stuff. I usually have to rely on videos as most modern demos won't run on my puny machine anyway.

is ridiculous.

This is a normal post You may be interested to know
that Panda Security for Windows 7, says that this file contains a virus W32/Sality.AO. So no matter how cool it is, I shant be running it.
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 18:48, Reply)
This is a normal post Yup - lots of A/V don't know what is arse and what is elbow
when it comes to packed executables.

The youtube video will have to suffice for you, then.

Edit: your virus is apparently "450,048 bytes" long. That's very impressive to have fitted it into something a hundred times smaller ;)
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 18:52, Reply)
This is a normal post That's irrelevant
from the general reaction you should of posted the youtube video instead as that has a link to the page for downloading the exe from there.

Do you honestly think it's wise to ignore your virus scanner if the virus is supposedly bigger than the file itself? Personally I trust what it says, that's why my pc works for so long without getting raped to fuck.

Edit: The YouTube video was pretty cool though.
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 18:58, Reply)
This is a normal post Irrelevant?
Erm. no. the viruses are packed too...

Not saying it's wise to do anything if you're unsure as to what you're doing or running on your computer. I was just thinking that as I know your A/V is wrong, I'd state the fact.

Given that the youtube video was a later find, and that it inherently diminishes the experience, I'd have to disagree that I should not have linked the original files.

Look up virtual machines. Sounds like you have the hardware to use them - and viruses are then no longer any threat (except to the virtual machine that you can just click out of existence if it borks).
(, Mon 20 Jul 2009, 19:03, Reply)
This is a normal post That's an exceptionally rash claim
There are several known circumstances in which a virtual machine can infect a real one, and there's no reason to suppose that VM sandboxes inherently offer perfect security.

Quite, does appear to contain some bollocks...

And since when was 4k small..? HD video - no. About 100 win32 viruses - yes.

This is a normal post simple
don't post links to exes in zips, they aren't taken well. I've written software myself and posted it on here that everyone refused to download! lol

But I trust my A/V software, that was my point, not doing so would be fucking stupid.
