So even if it's done for comic effect it winds me up.

This is a normal post Isn't that a problem with you rather than the film?
It's a lazy stereotype that can be defeated with good characterisation and development. If this film can show Capital-Y-Youths in a different light (ie. with actual personalities) then all credit to it.
