This is a normal post Hello, new person.
If everything about the Big Bang Theory were stuck in a burning warehouse, I would be the one outside throwing accellerants in through the skylight. Is it a fair rule of thumb to say that if a comedy series has more than 2-3 series, it's shit? Black Books, Bottom, Spaced, Nathan Barley (all 3 or less, and all excellent). Friends, 2 Pints Of Lager, Gavin & Stacey, Big Bang Theory, Only Fools..., My Family etc. Admitedly, there are some dreadful piles of shit that get binned after 2-3 seasons too. Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I present All About Me starring Jasper Carrott and Meera Syal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_About_Me

This is a normal post As I was reading that
I thought it was a pretty spurious argument, but after thinking about it for a few minutes the only sitcom I can think of which violates your rule is Yes Minister, and even that's not THAT great.

And the 4th series of The Thick of It is on later in the year, so unless that goes shit all of a sudden, we'll be able to count that as well.

This is a normal post I think I'm just not that cut-out for by-the-numbers sitcoms.
Frasier never did it for me either. I just picture Kelsey Grammar standing facing camera in a stiff pose deflecting feed-lines in a tiresome posh accent. All down to tastes, I know...

This is a normal post and a big Hello to you too
I think the 2-3 series argument is a good, as you say, 'rule of thumb' but I have to disagree when it comes to Big bang Theory. I liked it to begin with and feel it has grown, developed and got better with each series so far... and long may it continue. I think sometimes people idealize shows that only ran for a few series and focus on thier highlights where as with longer runners they focus on the lowlights. The later series of many shows that went downhill still had lots of good episodes but we tend to remember the duff ones.

Hello Fatty. Thanks for posting a comment and proving you exist. I think a ratio of 10 comments to every link should keep the spamhammers at bay.

"Longtime listener, first time caller" and all that. I will do my best to get involved and comment. I don't have much content that anyone would want to see anyway but am working on a Harry Potter/Billy Bragg mash-up video that I will get out there sooner or later!

This is a normal post Personally I rather like Big Bang.
Also, Gavin & Stacey only had 3 series. Plus, Only Fools and Horses shit? That's just plain wrong!

This is a normal post Haha, perhaps Gavin & Stacey just feels like it's been out there for umpteen seasons. I couldn't be bothered to check.
OFAH has never made me laugh so, as a comedy show, it's shit. Big Bang characters are just feeding a non-existing stereotype, I think. ("but that's the point!", I don't care)

This is a normal post Haha, my soul is alive and well, if not perpetually grumpy about the state of things :)
However, show me an episode of Ren & Stimpy, some Buster Keaton or any episode of Bottom and I start feeling that God is in his heaven and all is right with the world.

This is a normal post What about
Red Dwarf IV - Without it, we'd never have seen Ace Rimmer.

And, obviously, Blackadder Goes Forth.

This is a normal post Blackadder was great. remember how you'd look forward to the new episode?
have you tried watching it now. there's about 3 episodes in the whole thing that can raise a chuckle. Similarly with the Young Ones, we'd watch that over and over again until the tape tracking went nuts. I tried to watch the episode when they go to the pub recently and really struggled to make it to the end.

This is a normal post Only 50% right IMHO
I agree completely in regard to the Young Ones. I was super excited about each new episode as it came out and watched them all repeatedly for years... but now they have lost almost all their attraction and I barely raise a smile at most of it now. On the other hand I felt the same about Blackadder as it came out and I think that has aged fantastically and I would gladly watch any episode right now and always find them funny.
