Gives the film quite a risque edge.

just like how the carpet doesn't quite tuck under the skirting board in any professional manner suggests a social-realism and art noir feel, although I am disappointed that there was a lack of shadeless light build dangling from the bleak minimalist room.

It gives a slight "Tim Burton" feel

the badly fitted wooden carpet door bar, 2 different 'five for a pound' carpets and what looks like crumbling wall around the door alcove give it the gritty realism one could expect from an English council house. A Ken Loach style of filmaking here.
