NIMBYism of the highest order
Posh people getting upset that their neighbour has more money than them.

Dunno
I'm fairly sure if my neighbours wanted to turn our street into a building site for 4 years, I'd be fairly miffed. Also 'NIMBYism' is generally associated with people opposing public projects and things which they or the general public would benefit from, but which they don't want near their house. This is a case of someone wanting to disrupt everyone in the street's lives for 4 years with a massive amount of building work so that he can have a swimming pool and an underground garage.

I was thinking this, too.
Restricted - if any - daylight and natural ventilation? FFS.

Probably no daylight unless they have a Mines of Moria window going up to the surface.
and the air would have to be pumped down through pipes and have the CO2 pumped out, sweet!

I have no idea what one of those things is.
Do you mean a light chimney? My parents have one of those at the top of their stairs. It's great for illuminating the top of some stairs. If it was all I had in my living-quarters, I'd go stir-crazy.

have you no idea about the amount of wiring and switches and things needed to make on work?
didnt think so or you wouldnt have suggested it.
and once you give the basement staff a light they will want a door and every thing, this sort of thing could lead to them even ggetting outside . do you realy want that on your shoulder?

Poetry
“These plans are absolutely monstrous and unnecessary,” said the Duchess of St Albans, who is among neighbours who have objected. “It’s just absolute greed. No one needs that much space. Quite apart from that, the commotion is going to be dreadful.”

Maybe she hates her neighbours, particularly the trumped up Duchess next door?
In which case, go for it girl!

The Duchess of St Albans?!
I grew up in St Albans, since when has it had a Duchess?

Probably bought the title instead of getting a massive fuck-off extension on her mansion.
