I proper miss early 00's internet
An hour a night, easy to read, uncluttered pages, and a barrier to entry that meant only computer nerds could post. I wish there was some kind of early 00's version of the Amish, where we spend all day calling George Bush a wanker and buying ringtones for 99p

I remember the days of c64 and spectrums, when a small clique of kids in my school were into and shared games and programs
I was on the train the other day, and every single person in a full carriage was looking at a phone. No newspaper or books.
Though the huge downside is that idiots who used to go through life quietly, only getting angry about sport, now think their opinion matters on all else and needs to be shared

In some of those people's defence, their phone *is* their newspaper and book these days.
Complaining that everyone is on their phone instead of reading the local rag is a bit like complaining that everyone has eschewed the horse and cart in favour of the autocar.

There’s probably a few, but it’s more that looking at computers at all was kind of a niche activity
a straw poll of the tram im on now it’s mostly Facebook scrolling and games that aren’t really much above the c64 in complexity, and one bloke near me looking at a vid of kids at the beach which I hope are his.

but it's mostly people sharing funny and interesting links. mostly
not many other places where, to take the current selection as example, you can see some science bit on batcock, a compilation of tunes from 1946, cliff richard fat shaming, self-filmed drone shots of a welsh quarry, a link just to make a blue balls joke, elvis costello's dad, a game review and kurt russel cackling. compared to twitter we're the bloomsbury group
