One of those stories that makes you wonder how these people survived long enough to breed.

“tests showed it was live with a very small amount of charge”
The full version was designed to fuck up an entire ship. A practice version would be easily capable of fucking up an elderly gardener.
Practice shell or not, picking up ordnance from a firing range is pretty dumb, bashing said ordnance with garden tools knowing its origin spectacularly so.

I don't know if anyone here has a strong opinion about whether a missile is always guided or can be a shell like this one.

A missile is generally a self propelled projectile, but it can also be any object thrown or launched with intent to damage a target, e.g. a bullet or a chalkboard rubber.
I feel very strongly about maintaining this ambiguity.

I'd appreciate it if the powers that be made all missiles guided by nature of being missiles so i could be very withering about the inappropriate usage to someone online.
"Oh i think you'll find a rock is very much NOT a mi...", i think nuance and there not actually being a right answer is hugely overrated.

in that the act of aiming a throw/launch/fire/impulse/whatever is, in a sense, guiding that object to its target.

On the other hand the effective meaning is really what the receiver takes it to be.

A thrown stone is a missile.
