This is a link post How the Daily Mail works
Long, long blog entry, but very interesting and quite damning.

This is a normal post Wow
That makes them look even worse than they do themselves.

I had no idea you could completely fabricate statements and print them as direct quotations without being fired, sued, or both.

This is a normal post They get sued every so often
But not frequently enough or for enough money to stop them doing it (Nick Davies 'Flat Earth News' is quite good on why they can continually get away with printing absolute bollocks).

This is a normal post Nice one.
Good read, but not even a tiny surprise.

This is a normal post ^ This.
Though TLDR came in after a while. Having worked in coffee for a number of years I am well used to companies being misquoted or having things made up about them, let alone the product itself.

the Daily Mail tabloids

I remember reading about one of the Daily Star's goofs. They claimed that Gabba techno was exclusively nazi music, and named a particular club in London as a hotbed of this racist gabba-based-nastyness. So the club took them to court.

...Where it was pointed out to the judge that the owner of the club was black, the promoter of the gabba night in question was black and a number of the biggest DJ's on the gabba circuit were black (namely HMS and Loftgroover). Cue printed apology.

This is a normal post You see many a black skinhead within the S&M community, usually gay, in full regalia, including the tattoos,
fucks with my head a bit, but with luck, also REALLY pisses off the few remaining far right BNP types out there!

I think they justify it as the original skinheads in the '70s weren't far right and most of the music and culture was based on Jamaican influence, or some such, I'm not sure how true that is but there you go.

This is a normal post Wow!
Good read, not at ALL surprised but it's good to see someone standing up to be counted, someone should make a blog page called 'I was lied about by the Tabloids' or something similar so people can tell their side of the story, see if it adds some balance.

I get SO disheartened that every time I go down to see ANY elderly relative and they're reading out passages from their tabloid rag like it's tru-fax and looking at me like I'm an idiot when I say it's probably not true, they get so worked up about it all, I hear phrases like 'You can't do what you like in your own country no more' and 'children can't play in the streets safely' and such and you just KNOW it will be based on complete fabrication, yet here they are fearful eyes stabbing at the paper and voting Tory, or worse, so they can 'sort things out'.

*sigh*

This is a normal post That is good. And quite surprising.
There's alot of good stuff in this blog. Just read a nice piece on the dreadful Melanie Phillips.
Which I should really avoid. I'm just working myself up.

This is a normal post That is the downside of Daily Mail hating
- you end up a ranting, angry, alarmist yourself

This is a normal post Oh, it's okay, I'd be ranting about something anyway.
At least this way the bile is aimed at a deserving target.

This is a normal post My boss was talking about the start of the cold war today
and the shooting down of the B52 that really kick started the whole thing. Essentially, it boiled down to a journalist exaggerating how many missles the ruskies had and the incoming president believing that. Not quite as crystal clear but sounds interesting. It was on Radio 4, so should be on iplayer. I'll link if I find it.

This is a normal post Not really about the Daily Mail
more about Libel, but an interesting story.

This is a normal post At heart it isn't really about libel.
The courts aren't the place to deal with this - the PCC should have more teeth with issues like this.

As an aside...that's not really that long. Don't you people read books?
