This is a link post Mario Marathon - also posted on Saturday, but still live...
Three guys play Mario games to raise money for Childs Play - a charity that provides games, consoles and films for ill children.

Raised $29,000 last year.

Watch them live!

This is a normal post I had not heard of this
Until Geekologie and Wil Wheaton mentioned it on Shitter. I think it's a brilliant way of raising money.

This is a normal post Hmm...
I find it a bit sad that there's a charity raising money to give luxuries to Western kids who are ill when many children in the world die not just from illness, but good old fashioned hunger and drought.

I mean, it's always good to help people, and I'm sure their hearts are in the right place, but if it was me I'd rather the money went to some kid who has to pick grain out of rubble just to get some sustenance, than to give a terminally ill kid in the USA to provide them an XBox to play with for the last few months of their life.

This is a normal post Someone's doing something nice for dying kids.
If you don't want to, don't donate. Donate to some other charity instead.

This is a normal post Erm, no
They help to provide games, books, comics and other things that they then give to children's wards in hospitals in the US, and in the other countries that host Child's Play events.

I don't know where you got "terminally ill" from - they try to make staying in hospital more bearable for kids. Knowing several people with kids that are in and out of treatment for long term conditions, I think it's a great idea.

Also, it's not exclusive - people can give to more than one charity, right?

This is a normal post It was an example of a situation.
I wasn't stating that these things only went to terminally ill kids. I was highlighting one possibility that could potentially happen.

Furthermore, I wasn't saying that people shouldn't help kids. All I'm saying is that there are people in this world who don't even have the luxury of food, and I think it's sad that one group of people are raising money so that these kids are 'entertained' whilst in hospital, while other, less fortunate kids in the world are dying because they can't even afford food.

It was simply an observation about the differences in lifestyles of different groups of people in the world which made me sad. The fact that Western children have decent food and healthcare, and still require additional toys and games to make their recovery 'bearable', while some children, in parts of Africa for example, don't even get food.

I'm sorry if that offended you. It's just my viewpoint. I'm not saying people shouldn't donate to this charity, or that what they're doing is 'wrong'. I'm just saying that I don't think we're as grateful for what we have as we should be.
