I guess its an uncanny valley thing, the more realistic you make the effects the more your brain just screams "why isn't everyone flying off and it tearing itself apart when it turns a corner?"

Any meh I feel is because of the amazing setting being used to sell a generic revenge / child-of-special-person and stop-a-superweapon plot, which is fine if the film has any charm / great characters, but this looks a bit too serious

it's y.a. fiction-made-film. like city of ember, golden compass etc. course it's daft, but i'm pretty sure it'll hit it's mark.
