Having made a bunch of movies with little to no budget, we've been given the opportunity to film a short story by one of my favourite authors Iain Banks. Given the scope of the story and the seriousness of the topic, we really need to have a budget to do it justice and so we've set up a kickstarter to finance the venture.
Not that we're necessarily begging on the pavement of the information superhighway - everyone who donates $25 (about £15.59 in real money) will get a copy of the film on DVD, while higher donations can also net you a hardbound copy of the script and the original short story signed by the author.
If you're a fan of Iain Banks - or indeed Sean Pertwee (swoon!) who has signed up to the project - please take a look and see if it's the sort of thing you'd like to get involved with.

If I happen to find myself with any spare money between now and December, consider it yours.

If you can't afford anything, please share it with people who might be fans of Banks :)

You might also try this, or something like it - there are a few platforms that offer this kind of service iirc
www.crowdfunder.co.uk/
It's an increasingly common route for projects that have some sort of hook into a particular target audience (as yours does with the Banks connection), to raise investment. It might be something you'd want to consider as part of your overall fundraising strategy.

But as that doesn't have a "name" attached it would be a much harder sell on crowd funding sites - thanks to the Banks connection we decided this one stood a much better chance of raising the money.

I've been waiting years for somebody to turn one of Iain Banks' sci-fi novels into a film, and State of the Art is an excellent choice, I reckon.

self contained, no need to explain the whole culture. a standard quest narrative. 4 or 5 amazing locations that are all visually distinctive. it would be a fucking peach.

Everyone on the crew has their own favourite - I'd love to do Use of Weapons but the narrative structure would make it very difficult to do it justice

if you'd caught me two months ago i would have slung some quid your way. as it is i'm fucked. i fucking love iain m banks! if you ever make a feature length film with a massive hundreds of millions of dollars budget make an adaptation of against a dark background. it's the iain m banks novel most suited to a film adaptation i reckon. good luck!
