We don't really live in the sort of social climate where you could make the same kinds of films as Airplane!/The Naked Gun/Dragnet without igniting a massive social media moral outrage. We don't seem to understand the difference between satirical racism/sexism/homophobia and actual racism/sexism/homophobia these days. Well, I mean we most of us do, but a huge portion of them don't, and won't even need to see said movie before deciding that their sensibilities have been irreparably damaged by it.
