You're not wrong. I grew up in 1970s Britain, and so - with very few exceptions - had no exposure to high quality animation as a child. Then Mrs Apollo started showing the elder miss Apollo the cartoons of her own youth, and bozhe moi..!

Ever since I was introduced to Vinni Pukh I've thought Walt Disney's take was the freaky one. If I remember right, Vinni was voiced by the actor who played Sherlock Holmes; a bit like Captain Mainwaring voicing the Mr Men. Thanks for the reminder.

I grew up with E H Shepherd's illustrations so both Vinni and Disney are a bit WTF for me. Although on its own merits the Russian one is rather lovely.
