Worst Injury in Super Bowl HIstoryNSFW
Tim Krumrie broke his leg during Super Bowl XXIII. As he went to make a tackle his foot was planted in the ground, the pressure his weight put on his ankle joint caused his lower leg to snap above the joint. He was broke his tibia and fibula. but refused to go to the hospital and stayed in the locker room and watched the game on television, only leaving when the paramedics told him he might go into shock. A 15-inch steel rod was surgically implanted to stabilise the leg, and he went on to play six more years. NSFW I guess for floppy foot flopping about the place.

watch a lot of NFL (hand egg for us brits) and football (soccer for you yanks), and without exception if a horrible injury happens the following occurs:
Football...commentators shocked, wish he's OK and there's lots of footage of team mates drinking water and pointing at one another.
NFL...commentators shocked, wish he's OK and then proceed to explain in great detail and at great length what happened complete with HD super slo-mo replays from every conceivable angle.
