vid looking at the media on the Southport riots
It's from a long-running weekly quarter hour show in Aus called Media Watch that looks at news media and reporting, IMHO the best show on TV. might be of interest to some

You’re a Paul Barry fanboy, now that is a surprise. Is that where you get all your opinions from?
Let me guess, was it him that gave you the “Biden’s not senile, he’s just got a stammer” line?

Ha, when you’re triggered you really stay triggered
The show itself has a very narrow focus on journalistic integrity and media reporting. It’s not pushing any political barrow, and has well-researched critical analysis of both left and right leaning media (including the hand that feeds it). It’s a 15 min show on the ABC, and only very rarely covers non-Australian topics, so I’m guessing you’re just pretending to know who the retiring Paul Barry is in the vague hope that it might be insulting.
It isn’t, he’s been one of the better hosts of a very informative show if you’re (and I mean other B3tans) interested in the subject.

Does it explain why Sky News Australia is absolutely bat shit insane compared to Sky UK?

Sky news UK has, as they say, been on a journey.
It used to be fairly right wing, occasionally reactionary, this is definitely not the case any more. But the most remarkable change has been Kay batshit Burley. She used to be, even by my standards, rabid in her right wing rants. I found some of her interviews in particular unhinged and unreasonable. Now she’s gone completely the other way politically. It’s all just performative I guess, but in both roles she always comes over as an utter cunt.

Not so much the shareholders as the advertisers.
The latter have way, way more power than former in commercial tv.

you're not wrong there
it occasionally covers it, though usually only when it has some impact on a wider story as it has tiny audiences, about 20,000 viewers for their top rating show.
though it does like to end on a lighter note after a heavier piece, and sky-after-dark provides plenty of fodder for that in a fish/barrel sort of way
I should add that sky news Australia is still owned by murdoch's news corp, while sky UK got bought out by Comcast in 2018, which accounts for much of the editorial divergence

So Sky News Aus. is like GBeebies?
That would explain that Douglas Murray cunt.

yep, though they have a whole late night line-up, some of whom are even worse
Rowan Dean, who also edits the Spectator Australia (hi prufrock), is particularly unhinged. They fired his co-presenter after calling chinese "slanty-eyed yellow-skinned" which apparently was even too much for Sky, but Dean himself is a litany of almost comical misogyny, race-baiting and whatever alt-right bullshit is flavour of the week

that was interesting.
the training I did for coppers years ago was just concerned about whether an offence was arrestable, nothing about sentencing. sounds like quite a few of them will be going in the big house
