weeeeee.
Ulysses 31. An eighties cartoon that I was dangerously addicted to. There was telemicus, nono, Ulysses, and some blonde girl, trying to return to earth in an eye shaped space ship. The plot followed Greek myths, set in space,- minotour etc.. I LOVED that cartoon.. So in a nostalgic moment I tracked down a DVD with 6 episodes on it.
It is now the single most depressing cartoon ever to exist on this planet! I watched 3 of them,.and then went and put my head in the oven. Whilst in the bath. Hugging my toaster and using the power lead to hang myself and trying to slit my wrists with the soap.* if you can find an episode, watch with caution!
I no longer love this cartoon.
*may contain exaggeration.

I went through a similar thing with Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.

Ulysses and Cities of Gold were the ultimate in highbrow children's entertainment.
Dogtanian and Willy Fogg were lowbrow trash, and probably the reason that Furries exist.

About 15 years ago I used to work with a girl who'd had a massive teenage crush on willy fogg

Pretty sure most boys my age had a crush on the lead female from Dogtanian,
so we shouldn't judge her too harshly.

^ You two are in denial.
I've yet to meet anyone of my age who didn't find Red, from Fraggle Rock, at least a little bit attractive.

God, I loved that cartoon.

Battle of the planets
Was just a cut to shreds manga cartoon with an effeminate robot violently inserted to fill in the resulting gaps. Still loved it as a kid

Fucksticks
That's the one cartoon that I've never rewatched but assumed to be brilliant still. The dead-eyed floating crewmen scared the fucking life out of me as a nipper.
Also, Inspector Gadget. It's fucking awful, don't bother.
Mind you, Trap Door is reasonably good, and Dangermouse is great.

Depressing or no (and it is)
It's still a cartoon high point for me. You don't often get cartoons that are prepared to show kids an intellectual world full of paradox and myth, especially one that so closely mirrors the often deeply screwed up world of the ancient Greeks.
As a kid, it was the episode where they got stuck walking on the Mobius strip that scared me the most. Imagine doing the same thing for ever (he says, while attending his tedious job).
