Abusing freebiesA friend of mine recently attended a 'Champaign Lunch', where he was compelled drink as much fizzy stuff as he could between the first and last courses. In an ideal world we'd ask restaurant staff to tell us stories about fatties stuffing themselves at All You Can Eat places, but we recognise that our members don't all work in the catering trade, so for the rest of you - tell us something about abusing freebies. BTW: Bee puns = you fail.

Too many to countI started volunteering in clubs in high school because it would (a) get me out of class and (b) sometimes have free food. Having a cover as a journalist can get you in many doors. When I was a student journalist I elbowed my way into many formal functions where free wine was served. One time I even met the lieutenant governor. She sent her bodyguards after me, but it turned out she had ordered them to get my phone number.
Probably my largest coup was when I convinced FIFA I was covering the 2003 U19 Women's Football world championship for a small weekly music newspaper I wrote for (who didn't care about sports). They gave me a free pass I could use to get onto the pitch at any of the games.
The best part of the tournament was after the Canada/Japan game. I went into the press room to interview the Canadian players, and the door to the Japanese girls' locker room was open. One particularly careless player was standing too close to the door and before my eyes she stripped off her jersey, baring her back to me. Then somebody closed the door, but not before I'll take that image to my grave.
And yes, it's legal in Canada down to age 16.

eh ?OK, I'm intrigued if, I'm afraid, somewhat ignorant. What exactly is a lieutenant governor ? Also I guess others too may want some development on the theme of why she wanted your phone number.

Lieutenant GovernorCanada is a constitutional monarchy with our own queen (who just happens to be the same queen of England who rarely comes to our country). In her place is the governor general of Canada, who is currently a quite hot ethnic looking woman. In each province the queen is further represented by the lieutenant governors. The lieutenant governor in my story was a woman who grew up poor and somehow became extremely rich and ran a famous gardening store. She was awesome and everyone loved her. Unfortunately she died of old age before she could ever phone me.
