This is a question Addicted

Cigarettes, gambling, porn and booze. What's your addiction? How low have you sunk and how have you tried to beat it?

Thanks to big-girl's-blouse for the suggestion

Play it in your sleep
I used to be utterly, hopelessly, beyond remedial action addicted to Dungeon Master.

Not the D&D book based nonsense, no no - the classic from FTL Software, which spawned a fair few imitators.

It got to the stage where I was seeing walls and corridors in my sleep, and solving puzzles during a kip (applying what I'd dreamt of the following day).

Even to this day, I still have an install of it stashed away for PC, Amiga, ST and even iPaq. It's fair to say that game hoovered up a substantial portion of my late teens.

I can quit any time I want.

Yay!
Hoya!

Ah! Forget all that 3D crap! DM is the real deal!

I went quite far but never succeeded in completing it. My very last save was in a dead end. At the other end was a ghost and since I didn't have enough mana to fight it, it kept on killing me. My saving was thus useless... :-P

Amiga Rules!

Be funky

This is painful
but I finished it far too often too remember. I also discovered that you could clone objects using the firestaff, and in some cases get up to some serious fuckery by short-cutting some of the sanity-checks in the game. Such was the nature of the addiction.

I then went on to develop a Chaos Strikes Back habit which ate another three years of my life.

In conjunction with this, I was also abusing The Faery-Tale Adventure on a four year basis.

spell shortage
I used to love Dungeon Master. Especially fighting stuff in doorways so you could shut the doors on the monsters and kill them that way. I lost interest when after a lengthy lay off due to Amiga breaking i found i had lost the manual and the hand written notes telling me what symbols cast what spells.

I played DM again on an emulator a few weeks ago.
It was fucking awful.

Great back in the day though.
