but...if it's that busy and everyone wants this particular type of tat, surely the grunts in the stores could manage to sell to sheeple around Valentine's...
(I take it we're talking those beady things that look a bit like Murano glass)

Yup.... Tat... yes, any grunt can sell it during the busy periods, but they need all hands on deck to handle the volume.
Also, there are inevitably problem customers that need to be dealt with, special orders, till problems etc etc. For anything "off script", the grunts naturally turn to the boss, as it is above their pay grade
