If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of duck tape, it's not worth fixing at all, my old mate said minutes before that nasty business with the hammer and a roll of duck tape. Tell us of McGyver-like repairs and whether they were a brilliant success or a health and safety nightmare.

Phoned me up to help with hanging some doors as 'the chippie wanted a bloody fortune just to hang a bloody door, how hard can it be?'
Turns out it's a lot harder than it looks and after we'd finished planing the first one it looked like the entrance to a saloon.
He paid the chippie to hang the rest.

I've hung a few over the years. I've even put some doors up! (I'm here all week) Last year I hung a new front door and wanted to make sure my method was right (it was an expensive door, not a cheap internal one) so I watched a few DIY videos on the internet and confirmed I was doing it roughly right but got some tips to make it quicker and easier. When it comes to DIY, the internet can be amazingly helpful.

My dad is the real DIY expert, unfortunately helping him do DIY as a kid put me off being a legend in this area...I should get into it though, the Mrs loves it when I do jobs around the house, easy way to score bonus points right?

Did all 9 in 1 day, including a sliding door, all with new fixtures and fittings and he made a lovely job of it. But he told me that the first time that he ever tried to hang a door he was 16 years old, it took him all day to do it and he still ballsed it up. We all have to learn!
