I fucking love books.
Not just reading them, but the smell and the texture of paperbacks. I've often bought a book just because I like the cover and I get quite anxious if I haven't got another book ready when I've finished the current one. I'm not particulary well read or literary but I just love books.

I got two new bookcases for Christmas this year. Yay!

Kindles can fuck right off.

it means i only buy the acutal books i want to look at and covet and read until they're tattered. all the other crap that takes my fancy, i get on my kindle.

my daughter got a kindle for christmas.
she's just finished little women and is embarking upon pride and prejudice. she still loves 'real' books though, and has followed my example of saving some of her favourites to pass to her own children.

I have left numerous books on the tube with only mild regret whereas a rather expensive electronic device would be a much more annoying loss.

In addition no-one has mugged me for any of the books I was reading. Mocked perhaps but not mugged.

Also it's Stalin's dream. Only virtual copies of everything and imperfect human memory. Nothing is real Baudrillard was right. (A bit, probably not about the gulf war.)
