We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

...the sort of thing you can take on holiday and read by the poolside... I'd suggest 'Hogg' by Samuel R. Delany.
From the wiki page:
"At the time it was written, no one would publish it due to its graphic and copious descriptions of murder, homosexuality, child molestation, incest, coprophilia, coprophagia, urolagnia, anal-oral contact, necrophilia and rape."
Makes De Sade look like Roald Dahl by comparison.

It's like reading someone's shopping list.

The protagonist of the story is a homosexual serial killer, cannibal and necrophiliac.

I enjoyed it, even though I'm straight, and haven't killed or eaten anyone or fucked a corpse

It kept me away from Delaney for the last 35 years.
