Books
We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

Da Vinci Code... no wait, bear with me
The book itself was a steaming pile of horse manure, but it peaked my interest in the idea of The Golden Ratio - how everything in nature from the spirals of neutrons to the spirals of galaxies all follow this number.
I bought a book by Mario Livio which was extremely well written, informative without being overbearing mathematically.
This, in turn, sparked off a whole new area of interest for me which lead to me reading about infinity, chaos theory, fractals & an excellent book about the number zero and how the Greeks stubborn refusal to admit it existed held mathematics back about 2000 years..
Yes Im well aware Im a monumental geek (not helped by the fact I work as a computer animator I know), but if you spent as much time in airports and on planes as I did at that time you'd be grateful for the recommendation!

If you read just a little bit more you'll realise
that the word you needed was: "piqued". Im not sure that "peaking" is allowed but "peeking" might be.

So you like a book
because it introduced you to a single theory?
I don't think you can give the book ANY credit for that. FFS, pop music follows the Golden Ratio! All the DVC did was describe it in easy, monosyllabic words...
Sorry, this sounds like I'm having a go at you Mobi. I'm not, I just think that book is fucking dire.

Bit of a silly thing to say really...
...I read a book that talked about something Id not heard of before, so I decided to learn more about it, which in turn lead to me wanting to read more science/math theory books...
If you'd never heard of the Golden Ratio, how would you know pop songs follow it..? Everyone has to find about something from a single source to start out with...

Yes, I recognise that
But saying that a certain book is good simply because it introduced you to a theory is slightly odd. I'm just saying that it's the theory you like, not the novel which used it.
EDIT: I found out about the Golden Ratio in high school. My opinion of said school did not improve.

I think
it's quite a nice story; intrigue, fraud, excitement...but seemingly written by a four year old blind kid.
