The fighting fantasy books were awesome.
It took me 3 years to finish "Creature Of Havoc" without cheating

I deeply enjoyed Creature of Havoc, despite (or perhaps because of) being irredeemably lazy and winning all the combats by default. There's still a fair bit of work to do in the book if you want to get anywhere, even if you do cheat.
