I propose a general-purpose 'moron filter', similar to the swear filter, which would correct stupid spelling/grammatical errors, force extended passages in full caps into small case, and convert idiotic internet-speak into something more palatable, communicative and maybe even educational.

Examples:

"fail" might become "oops"
"definately" might become "Oh dear, I can't spell 'definitely'!"
"LOL" might become "an improvising saxophonist born in 1932"
"LMAO" might become "Chinese military and political leader (1893-1976)"
"[xyz] is shit" would become "I'm trying to fit in with the cool people, but I really think [xyz] is brilliant"
Racial imprecations would become "Look at me, I'm trying to court controversy! I'm so ironic! LOOK AT ME!!!"
and "lolz/lulz" really ought to become "HEY EVERYONE, I'M A MASSIVE WANKER!"

there's similar things done on another forum I frequent.
Perhaps the best one they have is changing one user name from 'skribla' to "the annoying ginger kid who asks loads of questions".

the swear filter is an optional extra - if implemented, this would also be optional, so anyone who's as sick as I am of b3ta being cluttered up with idiotic AOL-speak, 4chan-isms and the burblings of Nazi apologists can read and participate on the boards without any risk of their brains being reduced to cream cheese out of sheer existential despair.
