This is a question Bugs and feature requests

Found a problem on B3ta? Want other features that we don't currently offer? Type your ideas here with your finger-mouths. (We don't promise we'll act on any of it, but we will read it and your words could even prompt us into action.)

I'm a little concerned that you find it necessary to have an 'ignore list'.
How on earth do you cope in real life?

People actually are not as rude in real-life as online. Face to face they face responses ranging from being whacked with a rolled-up newspaper to being hit with a lawsuit for slander. Also, this is an entertainment site: I heartily recommend anyone who hasnt, to read through the QOTW archive to see what fantastic humour there is there

Insults, personal comments, accusations of seriously nasty crimes, ill-informed analysis of strangers personalities.. all have one thing in common: not entertaining. And not generally present in the archive until recently.

Ideal solution would be some mod action to restore the status quo ante bellum. Slight tweaks to Ignore 2.0 would be a 2nd-best

So censorship then?
The direct action that can be taken IRL tends to be more controlled because there are consequences. And of course an existing group of friends would not allow anybody who happened to want to join them to join them.
B3ta in common with thousands of other communities doesn't have these checks and balances so in terms of insults anything goes. There is also fierce competition to be the one who is right in an argument. Whereas IRL someone can end the discussion by walking away, on here the attacks can go back and forth for years and escalate to some of the extremely unsavoury personal insults posted of late. The ability to edit previous posts also makes it easier to turn being wrong into being right.
If you are going to legislate perhaps a ban on personal insults would help. You can say someone's opinion is shit but not that they are shit, their family is shit and their real name is Shitty MacShit.
Most of us have our own filters and can decide to ignore or discount anything we decide isn't valid. Unfortunately others are more sensitive and maybe need some protection.
The current 'crisis' appears on the surface to be about someone showing that they are sensitive and being 'bullied' because of this. If you look a little deeper the 'victim' does almost as much bullying as his tormentors and this is often unprovoked.
I don't know what the answer is but I wouldn't like to see a board where you aren't allowed to say, "That post was boring."

tl.dr. A boring post from some cunt who should kill himself and delete his membership.

Is it censorship to stop a blackshirt kicking a jew?

What I'm proposing is either the creation of effective systems to prevent the spoilers shitting on everyones posts and dragging the whole site down to their verminous level, OR some sort of mod action to re-establish what made this site great

Whoa Betsy!
Nobody's kicking anybody here. It's all just some typing and in my country we have freedom of speech. And calling the people who type it vermin is probably not helping.
I suggest a more reasoned approach backed up by the minimum of legislation to make it work. This of course would have to be enforced and that takes up somebody's time when I'm sure they would rather be doing something more rewarding than rat-catching.
Now if you can just tell us exactly where the line between mutually enjoyable banter and unacceptable criticism is to be drawn we can submit it to The Lord Chief Justice right away.

As a mere user I'm aware that mods don't really like being lectured on how to run their site and there's a narrow line to walk.

Given that after a possibly unwise comment a while back, I'm on a watch-list, I've probably said enough & stated my case adequately. I will now leave it to the mods.

Like I said - read the QOTW history. You'll find many, many similar statements in there from people who have added value to this site that they are withdrawing, in protest against that un-addressed small minority who only add bile

Pssst
You know that "watch list" I said you were on?

It doesn't exist. I am not actually a mod.

If ever there was a sign that you should stop taking the internet so fucking seriously, here it is.

And that, your godship, is surely the only point.
If you're taking it so seriously that it's hurting you or modifying your behaviour why are you here?

Haven't got me on your list have you?

Guess he's checking it twice.

Yeah, I think I covered that in the bit when I said that there wasn't actually a list.
Please rest assured, though, that if there was a list then your username would be number one, now and forever.

Some people calling some other people 'pricks' on the internet is like putting them in an oven.
You read it here first.
