Out there !
People I know where I live in the south pronounce it "ate there" - you know when its cold, they come into the pub and the first words they say "it's cold ATE there" ........Hampshire buffs. Or if its hot, similar, hot "ATE" there. Accent must be rubbing off on the husband. He called that current prick of a Prime Minister Gordon "Brain" recently.

How stupid is that ? I said you mean GB has got one ?

Mind he has had a few G&T's tonight.

'ULL
Hilarous. I do have friends up there but they send me the same stuff. Here it doesn't sound like how they say it here - its almost pincing on it, it is weird.....

I'm a southerner and I don't say either of those.
In fact, I would associate that manner of talking with the north.

Mee too
yeah strange isn't

I have never been taught to talk like that ?? mind you we do live in the country and its a strange "ate"

Never heard it up north though. Suppose you should go to the Wheatsheaf in Shedfield - you would hear it there !

Blimey !

It's a Southern Thing...
My husband comes from Portsmouth way and its just their accent. He's not so bad, but he does slip into it when he gets irate.
It's pronouncing an 'ow' (e.g. 'cow') sound as 'ay' (e.g. 'cay') in this case.
