This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

Alba DVD player from Argos
Bought in 2002 for 37 quid.

Still going strong after over 5 years!

In my (somewhat limited) experience...
...the cheaper the DVD player, the more you can play on them. CD-Rs, MP3s, mpgs, you name it =)

Value DVD player from Tesco
Bought on the Saturday. Used once, broken & back to shop for refund on the Sunday. OK it was only £19 or something but still you'd expect it to last longer than that.

my cheapo £20 phillips dvd player has lasted 4 years, being dropped down the stairs and a pint spilled all over it.

meh
I spent about £150 on a dvd player a few years back. Its a proper Sony thing and looks very smart, but refuses to play anything but the cleanest of discs and wont even consider any copied discs or cd`s.
I invested about £19 on some unpronouncable make from Asda and despite looking like it might fall apart at any moment, it will play pretty much anything.
