This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

We need a definition of common as the subjects of last weeks QOTW now seem to be answering this week.

I'd say common is the opposite of snobbery. Reading The Sun isn't common. However, it is perceived as common by those who read The Express (same newspaper, but more text and no soft-porn).

I'd say common doesn't naturally exist but is an invention of snobs who wish to be seen above their peers.

I think of it as
anyone who exhibits behaviour that I consider "beneath" me, which strangely doesn't leave much and yet there's a wealth of stuff in there thanks to the burberry brigade.

Sun v Express
True to a point but not as much as the Star and the Express. As they are the same bar all the good bits.
The good bits being in the Star of course. Where else can you find out about Big Bro innit?
