This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Aberystwyth
Every night without fail the local Charvers drive around the one way system over and over doin nothing other than beeping their horns. The common as muck part? All of them referring to students as "pobl yr ymylon" (drop-outs).

A wquick reply of Lloegyr am Byth usually shuts them up.

"Lloegr an byth"
It means "England forever".

Incidentally, never say that in Aberystwyth unless you want a guaranteed kicking by some beery Rugby boys.

Ahhhhh, memories.
As a former student at Aber, I know exactly what you mean.

The same can be achieved by wearing an England Rugby Shirt, and for added effect, on the day they thrash Wales in the Millenium Stadium :)!

I remember that day well
Decorating the bit of the hall I lived in in England flags was oddly enough not appreciated.

My Welsh is so crap as to be nonexistent

Hah!
West Wales, fuckers are either stuck up Welsh speaking twats who won't give you the time of day unless you also speak Welsh, or weird hybrid people who dont even sound Welsh or recognise the accent of a South Wales bastard like me.
