This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Use your lungs.
I'm deaf, which means I can't hear but I can damn well use my mind. I use American Sign Language and it pisses me off when other deaf people fingerspell "LOL" out rather than actually laugh.

I'll chop your hands off, puree them, and feed your babies your hands, fucktards. You'll see me laughing.

lulz
Non deaf people "say"* LOL as well, I think it comes from reading it so much on BBS and in game chats that people start to use it as a word.

All it takes is one person to start using it in conversation and everyone picks up on it.

*I think i've only heard it a few times in the wild, mostly its Europeans talking on voicecoms whilst gaming.

I find this amusing, I never knew that text speak existed in sign language.
That must really piss you off, nobody should say 'lol' if you're talking to them.
