My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

Use your lungs.I'm deaf, which means I can't hear but I can damn well use my mind. I use American Sign Language and it pisses me off when other deaf people fingerspell "LOL" out rather than actually laugh.

lulzNon deaf people "say"* LOL as well, I think it comes from reading it so much on BBS and in game chats that people start to use it as a word.
All it takes is one person to start using it in conversation and everyone picks up on it.
*I think i've only heard it a few times in the wild, mostly its Europeans talking on voicecoms whilst gaming.

My best friend was deaf............and she used to laugh at the amount of people that would ask her how to say hello in sign language!! he he!!!
