This is a question Complaining

I like writing letters of complaint to companies containing the words "premier league muppetry", if only to give the poor office workers a good laugh on an otherwise dull day. Have you ever complained? Did it work?

Gonna feel the stabby hate in a poor attempt at irony.
Australians have a what-fresh-hell-is-this relationship with the Whingeing Poms. We even have a magazine by an expat dedicated to the fine art of coming over here and whingeing about everything we have and do:

www.whingeing-pom.com/

Complaint? Oh, there's just not enough of you coming over here whingeing about everything we have and do.

I was in oz for 3 weeks last September
Didn't find anything to whinge about as I LOVED IT! I'm quite depressed that it has been a year already.

Don't blame us poms too much, who wouldn't want to move to your beautiful country?
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:45, closed)
Nah
I personally love the poms as they are the only ones who get our sense of humour. Tickled you had a bonza time of it cobber.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:55, closed)
Loved it
I was in Sydney for the red dust storm, I couldn't stop saying "Get your ass to Mars" all day.

Damn I miss Australia.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:58, closed)
I was in Sydney that day
and I couldn't stop saying "moon boots, where are my moon boots?". Love Sydney and all it has to offer. Oh Bondi, the land of the kiwi and pom - our own little UN.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:00, closed)
Me too! Just after I'd moved here.

(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:23, closed)
Colonel
Welcome to our forrin shores. What a time to move out here. Everything else must seem so dull after that. Perhaps you are in Victoria at the moment being a disaster magnet?
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:55, closed)
I want to emigrate to Aus, but I'm so scared of being labelled a whinging pom!
In my research of emigration websites, there do seem to be lot of forums where people just complain about everything, it makes you wonder what they expected when they went over there, do these people not do their research before they upend their lives and travel across the entire globe?

Idiots. It's a shame we all get tarred by the same brush. Although having said that, the last thread I started was complaining about stuff and it wasn't even 9am....
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:49, closed)
You have to remember that most people are idiots
probably the same people who go to Spain and only go in "English Pubs"
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:51, closed)
oh god I hate those people!
I was looking up reviews for places to go in Tenerife next week and there was a whole section devoted to 'Anglophiles' with fish and chip shops, English pubs and English shops. There was even an English-only swimming pool.

The reputation we Brits have is so embarrassing, I was watching Sun, Sea and A&E a bit ago and it's just awful! I think if I do emigrate I'll deny all knowledge of my heritage for a while.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:59, closed)
Complain away!
It is never too early for complaints or a gin and tonic. Do come, just so long as you are not an Afghani or Sri Lankan and on a boat. Then you will be locked up in the desert and sent back home after three years.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 10:58, closed)
I could not be any paler so I think I'll be safe
although that will probably reveal my pomminess!

I'm going to visit next year, I can't wait. Whereabouts do you live?
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:01, closed)
I'm in Tasmania
It is so English, or so I imagine it to be after watching a lot of Grand Designs, that you will feel right at home. The website I pasted - check what they have to say about Tassie. I think it is funny and quite a bit true.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:03, closed)

pfft - you will be embraced. everyone gets a gentle ribbing for something. right of passage. it means youre welcome.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:29, closed)
I have read
that there is an official Olympic pamphlet which gives hints that when Aussies start talking about poms, take it as affectionate. I didn't realise that there may be people out there who don't get our kind of welcome.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:37, closed)
Is that in the same way all the Aussies just come over for free health care?

(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 11:58, closed)
Um
We have free health care here, so I am assuming that Aussies in your hospitals is due to warm beer and the shock of everything being so expensive.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:10, closed)
'Course you do.
Bless.

You're not whinging about the cost of everything and the temperature of the beer, are you?

Next you'll be telling me the weather's crap (because - y'know - we do try to sell Britain to the tourist industry as a tropical paradise).
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:11, closed)
I'm from Tassie
And I imagine that our wet and cold weather is like yours. I would love to be in the UK for the weather - standing and looking over the North Sea would thrill me. Bugger the beer and prices! And bugger the whinge!

I went to Wagga Wagga to be my mate's best man (he married one of them) in August a few years ago.
Assuming that Neighbours was factually correct, I packed t-shirts, shorts and walking sandals for the duration.

There was ground frost every single morning, and it rarely got above 17 degrees.

Turns out bloody Neighbours was lying to me.

I once scuba dived
at the beach where they film Home and Away. I didn't look like Sally on coming out of the water, nor was Alf there to yell, "flamin' heck" at me.

Wagga Wagga - I have been drunk many times in Wagga, staggering those hugely wide and long streets and freezing my arse off. Well done on braving the wilds of Wagga. You should emigrate with that lovely experience.

We joked about how it was going to be stuck in the 1920s.
Turns out it was. Guys would not even acknowledge Mrs Vagabond on introduction, except for the occassional lad giving her a glancing nod. I got told off for swearing in front of the ladies, and with me being a smoker and Mrs V being a vegetarian, invariably retaurants gave us a table with a view over the bins. Absolutely fascinating place. My (then 29yo and looking it) mate got refused beer the night before his wedding because he didn't have his passport with him to prove his age, and a stranger offered me out for a fight because I said that ale was better than lager.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:54, closed)
I'm embarrassed
And I have the cheek to complain about the poms! You win.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 12:57, closed)
Oh don't get me wrong - Melbourne was great, though Canberra dint get at all
And there's a nice place on the way called Yass, which was jolly friendly, where we went to the Ewe n' Me restaurant and had meals that were nearly as big as my ego.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 13:04, closed)
Sheep's arse
Hope you went up it in Goulburn. I do love the Big Merino. We have so many 'big things' crap here and I have a little wall of fame for all the pissweak big things I have been to - the big park bench at Broken Hill, the big deck chair (which isn't) at Mildura, the big trout, the big gumboot, the big beer can, the big bull with swinging big bollocks - totally awesome, the big orange, potato, banana and pineapple. God, I could go on for paragraphs...all of them crap.
(, Wed 8 Sep 2010, 13:11, closed)
This is fair enough but I know the exception
Until last year I was working with an Aussie who only ever shut up about her antipodean heritage in order to moan liberally about abso-bloody-lutely everything possible. Work, the people at work, London, the travel, the facilities at work, her boyfriend, her uni coursemates (part time student) etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I have heard some complainers in my time but NEVER anyone anywhere near as bad as her for her insistence that everything was crap and basically existed in order to fuck her up as much as poss. So I can't take any notion of whingeing poms seriously ever again.

The rest of you lot seem to be a fairly lovely bunch tho, not as cool as the Kiwis mind but not too bad. Except when we (occasionally admittedly) beat you at sport, then you really do whinge.

So if whingeing was a sport
Then do we win?
